Alcohol

Alcohol refers to a class of chemical compounds that typically contain one or more hydroxyl (-OH) groups attached to carbon atoms. The term commonly refers to ethanol (ethyl alcohol), which is the type of alcohol found in alcoholic beverages and is known for its psychoactive effects. Alcohol is produced through the fermentation of sugars by yeast and can be consumed in various forms such as beer, wine, and spirits. In addition to its recreational use, alcohol is utilized in industries for its solvent properties, in the production of pharmaceuticals, and as a disinfectant. It can have both short-term effects, such as euphoria and relaxation, and long-term effects, including health risks like addiction, liver damage, and various diseases when consumed in excess. There are also other types of alcohol, such as methanol (wood alcohol) and isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol), which have different uses and can be toxic to humans.
